The Baroque N' Fiddle String Quartet is traditional Celtic music in a classic string quartet. This ensemble - founded by Halifax fiddler Brad Reid - features original arrangements of traditional Celtic violin music, largely from the Scottish Cape Breton repertoire. Brad, who studied music at St. Francis Xavier University, began performing Cape Breton violin music years after his grandfather, a fiddler from Cheticamp, Cape Breton, first took him to a practice and concert with the Cape Breton Fiddler’s Association as a teen. More recently, Brad was invited to compete in the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition in 2016, and 2017, and participated in the 2017 Silkroad Global Musician Workshop at DePauw University in Indiana, USA. In 2011, when Brad met and began performing with cellist Catherine Little (who would become the cellist with BNFSQ), her classical training and his "fiddler" techniques proved to be a challenge when playing together. After listening to a rehearsal of Catherine's "classical" string quartet play Haydn, Brad was inspired to start arranging the music he knew to be played in a string quartet setting... and the BNFSQ was born!
